Star campaigner of the BJP Hema Malini on Wednesday addressed an election rally at Kharsawan in support of party’s Khunti candidate Arjun Munda. She asked the gathering to support Munda as he would serve Kharsawan with dedication.

She said that every vote of the people will strengthen Modi Government in the Centre. She has been since long associated with the BJP as the party does not cater to any particular community or caste but was rather a 'janta ki party'. She said, the works which have been done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last five has brought peace and prosperity in the country.

“BJP is the only party that has the capability to ensure progress of entire section of the society. Modi ji’s dynamic rule has helped the country to win global recognition. The opposition parties have united only to stop Modi to become the Prime Minister. The people must teach opposition parties a lesson for lifetime,” she said.

Khunti parliamentary constituency, reserved for members of Scheduled Tribes covers the districts of Khunti and Simdega and portions of the Ranchi and Seraikela Kharsawan districts.

The constituency has six assembly segments, Kharsawan, Tamar, Topa, Khunti, Kolebira and Simdega, which are also reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes.

Khunti has become one of Jharkhand’s high profile parliamentary constituencies after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Arjun Munda by dropping its eight-term sitting member of Parliament Karia Munda. Meera Munda, wife of three time chief minister and former Jamshedpur MP, Arjun Munda, is also campaigning for her husband.

“I have always supported my husband even during assembly polls and as a member of BJP Mahila Morcha (Meera Munda is member of state executive committee of BJP Mahila Morcha) and this time too I want the people to know about the pro-poor policies undertaken by Modiji’s government. I am also trying to clear the misconception created by opposition that the BJP government is anti-tribal,” said Meera Munda (42).

Munda  served as four-times MLA from Kharsawan before losing to JMM’s Dasrath Gagrai in 2014 and Torpa  which fallsunder Khunti parliamentary constituencywhere Arjun Munda is pitted against gathbandhan candidate from Congress Kalicharan Munda.
