A youth was arrested here for posting objectionable material on a social media website hurting religious sentiments, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mungeli Neethu Kamal said on Wednesday.
“The youth identified as Vikas Khandelwal had posted objectionable material on Facebook on Tuesday and he has been arrested,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, during the day, locals in Mungeli town while demanding Vikash’s immediate arrest took out a rally and burnt tires on main road. Few vehicles standing on roadside were also reportedly damaged by the mob that had reached Kotwali police station.
Sensing the rising tension, prohibitive order was imposed and additional force from neighbouring district was summoned. The situation was under control till the reports last came in.
According to the police, Vikash has been booked under relevant sections of IT Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC).
