The State Youth Congress leaders here on Monday demanded that the Durg legislator Arun Vora be made the leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
The leaders — including Ashish Chandrakar, Anup Verma, Poppu Sribvastav and Nitin Khichria — said Vora is a strong leader with mass reach and he has the ability to carry other legislators. He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heavyweight and Minister Hemchand Yadav because of his personality and connection with the people.
The leaders who have written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi to press their demand also said Vora has been fighting for the people on various issues for quite a long time and he should be brought to the forefront in the party. They also urged Vora’s elevation to the post of leader of Opposition which will help the Congress to perform better in the upcoming lok Sabha election scheduled to be held next year. The percentage of votes the Congress had secured in the recently concluded Assembly election had showed that people have faith in Congress party and its popularity has remained intact although the BJP has retained power in the State.
Congress needs a leader who can take on the BJP government and expose its misdeeds. They said it is Vora who is fit for the job. If he is appointed as the leader of Opposition, the party will grow under his leadership and perform better in the upcoming polls , they said.
