He said that the key benefits of this workshop is to understand the role social entrepreneurs play in society and the key challenges faced by them, build leadership, organizational and negotiation skills to manage a growing social enterprise. The participants can gain skills in applying business tools to empower the market place and achieve social benefits.
In recent times, a new genre of entrepreneurs has cropped up, who through their initiative ideas, provide solutions to society’s most pressing issues. These social entrepreneurs are ambitious, committed and persistent in their way in order to change lives for the betterment of the society, Tandon said.
Their strong self belief and non reliability on government for change drives them towards working relentlessly in the area of community development. They are visionaries who concern themselves with practical implementation of their vision. They also act as role models while proving that people who channel their passion in to action can do almost anything, he said. Social entrepreneurs play the role of change agent in the society. They continuously innovate and learn and pursue newer opportunities in order to serve that mission. This has proved to be a vital aspect of CSR. Some companies outsource their CSR activities to these entrepreneurs and it works in favour of both. Their commitment itself forms an integral part of their Self Social Responsibility, Tandon said.
Social entrepreneurs use business models to solve social problems. The concept is still in its infancy and has a lot of growing up to do before it will have major impacts. There are many live examples of social entrepreneurs who have done exceedingly well in their fields. There are many linkages possible between them and CSR experts, he said.
To discuss and elaborate more on social entrepreneurs, PHDCCI and KAS is planning to organise a series of round table seminars in different states so as to apprise people about this concept and how linkages can be created.
