A workshop on laparoscopic surgery was held in Apollo Hospital on Saturday.Senior Gynecologist, Dr Rashmi Sharma (Apollo Hospital, Bilaspur) informed the gathering about the benefits of laparoscopic surgery.
“There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus the more common, open procedure. Pain and hemorrhaging is reduced to great extent due to smaller incisions and recovery times are shorter. The key element in laparoscopic surgery is the use of a laparoscope” said Sharma. A long fiber optic cable is inserted in the patient’s body, which allows viewing of the affected area on a large screen by snaking the cable from a more distant but more easily accessible location, she taught.
“In this technique, the patient can be discharged after two-three days of the operation” Sharma added.She said that the technique is useful in painless and very less hemorrhaging treatment of ovarian cyst, Ectopic pregnancy. Such surgeries are being performed in Apollo Hospital, Bilaspur on regular basis.Dr Shweta Agrawal, Dr Rashmi Budhia, Dr Sunita Verma, Dr Prakruti Verma, Dr Anjali Gupta, Dr Shaila Milton, Dr Manju, Dr Neelam and other gynecologists attended the workshop.
