About 3,100 workers under the banner of All India National Mineral Development Corporation Workers Federation staged a day-long protest on Thursday which resulted in a total halt to iron ore production at NMDC mines at Bailadila hills.
The workers organised the protest against the Central government’s decision to disinvest 10 percent stake in NMDC ltd, India’s largest iron ore producer and exporter in public sector. NMDC has several massive mines at Bacheli and Kirandul which jointly form a sprawling Bailadila hills which come under extreme Naxal insurgency-hit Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.
NMDC officials at Kirandul had estimated a loss of about Rs 50 crore to the company in Chhattisgarh due to the daylong strike.
