The Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Commission for Women, Dr Kiranmayee Nayak, on Friday urged women not to file false cases. Misuse of law prevents the benefits of law from reaching them, she said.

Dr Nayak made the observation during a public hearing in Bilaspur. On the first day of the two-day hearing, seven cases were disposed of, a press release said.

The Commission heard cases of violence and those related to mental harassment, harassment at workplace, dowry cases, Tonhi (witchcraft) harassment and physical harassment.

An applicant from Bilaspur had registered a complaint against her father-in-law and mother-in-law that they were threatening her husband and her parents as she had married on her choice.

The accused father-in-law told the Commission that they had evicted their son from their property in 2013. However, the son and his wife forcibly entered their house and tried to claim their right on the property, the press release said.

The Commission observed that the case was not based on facts.

In another case, a woman alleged that she was harassed by her husband and in-laws due which she was living separately with her son. She sought maintenance allowance from her husband, a SECL employee at Bhatgaon in Surajpur district.

Dr Nayak directed the Chief General Manager, SECL Surajpur, to ensure that the woman’s husband attended the next hearing at Janjgir.
