The charred body of a woman and that of her four-year-old daughter was found in their home at Jaroud village under Vidhansabha Police station limits, police said on Thursday.
The body of Kavita Verma (38) wife of Budhram Verma and their daughter Mansi (4) was found in the bathroom of the house on Thursday morning, City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Civil lines, Sanjay Dhruv said.
“The parents of the deceased woman alleged that her husband used to torture her and was seeking dowry, though the couple had married about 18 years back,” he added.
“During primary investigation we have found that the deceased woman was suffering from some kind of disease, but only a post-mortem report could reveal the fact,’’ the CSP said.
Meanwhile, police informed that Kavita lives with Budhram in a joint family and had two more sons apart from daughter.
After dinner on Wednesday night, she had gone to bed along with her daughter and on Thursday morning charred bodies of both mother and daughter were found in the bathroom.
Initially, the police registered a report in this connection and are looking into the case from all possible angles including homicide, the CSP said, while adding that Budhram was the employee with a private company.
