Disillusioned with the hollow Maoist ideology, four insurgents including a woman surrendered before the police in the insurgency hit Dantewada district on Thursday. The insurgents accompanied by a large number of villagers surrendered in the office of Superintendent of Police, Dantewada Kamlochan Kashyap.

The surrendered rebels include the President of the Cholnar village Dandkarandya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan laxman, President of Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan Hungi and members of Janmilitia Raju and Kosa, said Kashyap said.

Police claimed that the surrendered rebels were disillusioned with the Maoist ideology and were angered by the activities of the outfit. They disliked the brutal murders of innocent villagers and security personnel by the ultras, harassment of people for money, ration and other items, extortion, restricting children from attending school and harassment of villagers for not cooperating with them.

Kashyap welcomed the surrendered insurgents and assured them of providing all possible help as per the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy.“The regular combing and search operations by the security personnel in interior forests and arrest of Maoists have discouraged the outlaws. In addition to this, the rehabilitation policy has attracted the insurgents willing to come in the mainstream of society,” said Kashyap.

Additional Superintendent of Police SR Bhagat and SDOP Kirandul Mirza Ziarat Baig were also present on the occasion.
