If the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government bear fruit, it won't be long before houses in Insurgency-hit Bastar are lighted up with wind energy.
Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) has identified Raikot and Burgum villages in the district for establishment of wind energy plants.
According to sources, engineers of CREDA have already completed a survey of the area while preparations are on to establish a wind mill farm on an experimental basis. After year-long monitoring of the project, the department would establish the wind energy plant, CREDA sources said.
Notably, CREDA has for the first time taken the initiative to establish wind energy plant in Bastar. Earlier the agency had established a plant in Kondagaon district but the project failed miserably.
According to sources, CREDA officials have found village Raikot in Tokapal block and village Burgum in Bastanar block suitable for establishing the wind energy farm for which employees of the agency have already conducted a survey. Now, the agency is preparing to construct a wind mill on trial basis. After assessing the viability of the wind mill for a year, the department would construct a wind energy plant.
With the establishment of wind mill farm at the two villages, power cuts and other related problems in nearby areas would also be solved without expending much money.
Executive engineer of CRED, ARK Rai said that in the survey conducted by the agency, both the villages have been found viable for establishing the wind mill farm and it is expected that with the establishment of wind energy farm at two villages of Bastar, power problems in nearby villages would also be solved. The agency would start experimental wind mills at these villages soon, Rai added.
