Why is Jogi suddenly raising Chhattisgarh issues: Sharma

Published on:

Bharatiya Janata Party State General Secretary Shivratan Sharma on Wednesday said that former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi has suddenly raked up issues concerning Chhattisgarh after getting a ticket to contest lok Sabha polls from Mahasamund.

“Why was Jogi who, till recently, talked of retiring from politics, remained silent on issues concerning Chhattisgarh,” he said in a statement here .Sharma said that the former Chief Minister, who provided wrong advice to farmers not to sell paddy even before Assembly polls, had now once again worn the mask of being their well wisher and has started talking about paddy support prices.

The State Congress President Bhupesh Baghel, some days back had been issuing baseless statements regarding paddy support prices and now Jogi is trying to mislead the people on the same issue, he said. It had been clearly mentioned in the BJP’s Assembly poll manifesto that the party would try to get the support price of Rs2,100 per quintal of paddy for the farmers, Sharma said.

It is a well known fact that the paddy support prices are fixed by the Centre and Chief Minister Raman Singh had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue immediately after taking oath of office, he said.It is unfortunate that the Congress leaders did not take an initiative in getting the support price for paddy for the farmers, Sharma said.
