The Congress on Thursday flayed the BJP for attacking its poverty alleviation scheme, the Nyuntam Aay Yojana (Nyay), and asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders were so “pain stricken” over the announcement.
In a statement Congress’s state general secretary and chairman communication wing Shailesh Nitin Trivedi mounting blistering attack on BJP leaders opposing the scheme, said whether the natural resources and subsidies were only for rich industrialists.
He further said “it is shameful that the leaders of BJP right from Modi and Jaitley are opposing the world’s biggest anti-poverty scheme.”
On how to source the fund needed for the scheme, the Congress leader said there was no dearth of resources in the country to do a good deed.
“Only priorities have to be decided. Waiving off loans of industrialists is in the priority list of the BJP,” he added.
They had written off industrial loan worth Rs 1, 94,645 crore in year 2016-17 and 2, 47,726 crore in 2017-18. Thus a total of 4, 42,371 crore loans were waived off by them to benefit a few big corporate houses, he aqlleged.
In a similar way, the Congress will arrange around Rs 3, 60,000 crore for Nyay, the leader added.
When a handful of industrialists could be given tax rebate, land and power in concessional rates, then why not Rs Rs 3, 60,000 be arranged for 25 crore poor in the country, he said.
