Women Helpline Centre (WHC) in Chhattisgarh has registered more than 1,500 cases so far, out of which, a good number of cases have reached to its logical conclusion and up to the satisfaction of the victim, a Press release from the helpline service informed.

Notably, the dial ‘181’ service is a State-wide, 24x7 Toll free and easy to remember Woman Help line number operated by Women Help line Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Raman Singh had inaugurated 181-Women Help line Chhattisgarh in June 25, 2016 for providing assistance to the women in distress.

Number 181, when called on, informs the women in distress about the laws and legal remedy or recourse available to find a way out for the problem, they are suffering from, as 99 per cent of such women are not aware of it.

As soon as women helpline receives calls from the victim or complainant, it registers the case with a specific case number and then transfers it to the concerned SAKHI centre within minutes to provide appropriate assistance to the victim.

181-Women Help line keeps close watch to each and every transferred case to ensure that standard operating procedures/relevant legislations are being implied, without any delay, to resolve the matter.

It is not that 181-WHl proceeds only through police stations,it prefers counseling and mediation over police action when it comes to a matter related to family affairs.

Basically 181 WHl is the mouthpiece of the women in distress and represents them at each and every available forum till the issue conclude logically and to the satisfaction of the victim.

Be it a case of eve teasing, sexual cheating of a woman on the pretext of love and marriage, dowry harassment cases, or extramarital affairs, 181 has registered its active presence, whether with stringent legal action or with a compassionate mind, as and when the particularity of the case requires.

The 181 WHl also helps victim to get legal consultation or free legal aid by coordinating the concerned District legal Service Authorities.

With the help of well equipped modern technology, 181 WHl functions on virtual private network,  which ensures secrecy and confidentiality of the data. The staff of Women Help line are updated with relevant laws and legislation, standard operating procedures etc by providing intensive training on the issues.

Manisha Tiwary Dutta, Manager, 181 Women Help line Chhattisgarh gives credit to the trust, confidence and the support extended by the Directorate Women and Child development Department  of Chhattisgarh for successful functioning of 181 WHl. She appears to be proud while sharing that 181 WHl aims to further the women’s empowerment agenda of the State Government.

Prof Rajendra Kachroo,  the Founder of the Aman Satya Kachroo Trust, which is the managing and technical partners of the state government for this project, states that “We work in the partnership with the Government of Chhattisharh to restore dignity and equality of women in India.”
