Bastar MP Dinesh Kashyap inaugurated the 12th Senior Male and Chhattisgarh Weightlifting Championship competition, jointly organised by District Weightlifting Association and Bastar District Olympic Association, here on Saturday.
Kashyap said that it was our privilege that a national level sports has been organised here. Organising weightlifting competition in Bastar, the sports associations have been making efforts to bring out national level talents from Bastar. He hoped that like sports persons from other parts of the State, national level sports persons would come out from Bastar also. He extended best wishes for the successful organisation of the event.
Special guest Kiran Dev said that Bastar is considered as the region that had achieved specialisation in traditional sports.After the formation of Olympic Association here, efforts have been made to include provision of other sports of the country. While wishing success in the weightlifting completion, he hoped from the players that they would enlighten the name of the State and the country at State and national level.
Earlier, District Olympic Association and State Weightlifting Association vice-president NR Parashar, while welcoming the visitors, hoped that they would increase the honour of the State and the nation.
National weightlifting players Sarala Sahu from Rajnandgaon, Anit Shinde from Dalli-Rajhara, Ajaydeep Sarang and Shiv Sahu performed weightlifting at the inaugural function. The programme was started by lighting lamp and garlanding the idol of lord Bajrangbali.
BJP State secretary Sriniwas, Yogendra, Vidyasharan Tiwari, TD Chandel, Yashwardhan Rao, Sangram Singh Rana, Bhanwar Bothra, Sharda Prasad and Bothra Sarangi were present at the function.
