We were misquoted, we won't apologize: BJP

Published on:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday refused to apologize over a controversial remark by its leader D. Purandeswari, saying she was misquoted over a critical word in her sentence.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel earlier in the day asked the BJP to tender an apology.

Instead of "blow", she was wrongly quoted as saying "spit", BJP state President Vishnudeo Sai told the media.

Purandeswari, the BJP in-charge in Chhattisgarh, reportedly said on Thursday that if BJP cadres "turn and spit only once", the state cabinet will be washed away.

Sai accused the Congress of creating a political drama. He insisted that nothing untoward was stated about the farmers or people of the state.

Everyone knows that Purandeswari is from south India and has problems in pronuncing Hindi words.

He said it seems the Congress government has been shaken after the three-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ of the BJP.
