State Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal has expressed his apprehension on scarcity of water and has said it was an outcome of negligence as instead of conserving the water resources we are building ‘concrete jungles’.
He was addressing a Workshop titled “Chhattisgarh Jal- Chintan here.
The Minister said: “We have not done justice with nature. We never stood up and made efforts to revive the rivers and nullahs and similarly have not worked to deepen the water sources”, he said.
Our ancient scriptures too have cautioned us to preserve the water resources and it is now high time to give attention to it”, Agrawal said.
The Minister further underlined the need of forming a separate Department which could work on preservation and revival of water resources.
He further stressed for initiating a movement for stopping pollution in the water resources and to preserve the sources and origins of rivers and nullahs.
Secretary, Water Resources Department, Sonmoni Borah while speaking on the occasion said that Chhattisgarh is a state of water bodies and our ancestors have worked a lot to preserve them.
Asserting that Govt was doing its best to preserve the water bodies, Borah said industries should also come forward in this direction. There will be bigger challenges regarding water crisis in near future and the government is preparing itself to combat it, he said.
Atul Jain of Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi and senior officials of Water Resources Department were present in the workshop.
