Water conservation action plan in Surguja district will be prepared through Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, which will save time, resource and power, officials informed.
Besides, a suitable action plan related to infrastructure of check dam, or stop dam of appropriate size at a suitable place may also be prepared, they stated.
On the initiative of Surguja District Collector Ritu Sen, a day-long workshop for officers of Water Resources Department and MNREGA was held in the district headquarters to make them aware of the plan to carry out GIS mapping for water conservation.
Officials informed that through GIS mapping technique, such places would be identified where water conservation could be done technically. With this technique selection of place and assessment of resources could be done in the action plan. There is no need to conduct survey at the time of preparing initial action plan. It will save both time and resources, officials stated.
The Collector has already directed the officers of WRD and MNREGA to make action plan for water conservation under the pilot project in 5-5 villages by using this technique.
In the workshop, Chhattisgarh Infotech and Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) Raipur’s trainer Nalin, through a power point presentation, informed in detail about various utilities of it.
He informed that selection of a place for assessment of technical aspects could be done with this mapping. Besides, minute information about geographical conditions like place of water source, how far it is from a particular place, height, condition of slop and selection of appropriate model on this basis could be achieved from the mapping.
Collector Ritu Sen said that using this technique, digital action plan would be prepared in 5-5 village panchayats for the first time in the district.
She directed to prepare an action plan to link unapproachable villages of Mainpat area with road by identifying them and to utilize it for sanction of works like land-levelling under MNREGA. The water conservation action plan would be helpful in preparing catchment-treatment scheme, along with making comprehensive action plan for sapling plantation.
