Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has pledged a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakhs to a young man to pursue higher education despite failing eyesight.
Beneficiary Mohit and his sister Muskan met the Chief Minister on Thursday evening.
Muskan said: “My brother and I suffer from Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic disease of the eyes. The eyes gradually lose vision. I can't see at all while my brother has lost almost 50 percent vision in his eyes.”
She said her brother got selected for IIM Ahmedabad but they had to pay hefty fees which the family could not afford. "We were told to approach the Chief Minister," an official communication quoted her as saying.
Baghel told them not to be concerned about fees but instead work hard. He asked the officers to send the proposal regarding providing Rs 25 lakh for Mohit's fee for approval from the cabinet.
Raipur resident Mohit said their father works in a private company. After securiing 99.93 percent in the common admission test for Master in Business Administration, he got selected for IIM Ahmedabad.
"The fees for two years totals around Rs 25 lakh. Our family is unable to pay the money," he said.
Muskaan further said she too is pursuing B.Ed from Banaras Hindu University. Simultaneously, both run a project called 'Ray of Hope', under which he teaches Mental Maths and English online to about 200 people suffering from poor vision.
