The ration card of an eligible visually impaired man was cancelled by the verification team at Avantibai Ward in the city. A complaint was lodged by the victim with the district administration during Jandarshan programme on Monday and the concerned officers have ordered to reissue the ration card to him.
The victim Tekichand (25) resident of Avantibai Ward claimed that he is the head of family and has three siblings including a sister dependent on him. He said that he is visually impaired and eligible for holding the ration card yet the verification team cancelled the card for not bearing official seal. Tekichand said that the administrative officers found his claims true and ordered to re-issue the ration card.
A large number of women reached the Collectorate to lodge their complaint against cancellation of ration cards. Some claimed that the verification team cancelled the card in absence of senior members of the family while some accused the verification team of being biased. The administrative officers asked them to lodge their complaints in the public hearing to be organised for claims and objections for the ration cards on July 6.
Meanwhile, a group of students of Government Dental College approached the district administration and requested the officers for providing scholarship pending for past two months.
“The scholarship provided to SC, ST and OBC students of dental college has not been paid for past two months. We are facing problem as we have to make a number of payments for food and hostel besides other academic needs,” said Toran Sahu.
They claimed that they have been frequenting the offices of Tribal Welfare and concerned departments but no action has been taken to help them. They claimed that the scholarship of all private and medical colleges including MBBS and nursing have been distributed except 100 students of their college. The officers have forwarded the complaint to the concerned department for action.
