BJP MP from Raigarh Vishnudeo Sai (in pic) has been picked up as the new president of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit on Tuesday. The 49-year-old tribal leader Sai had earlier held the post of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit chief between October 31, 2006 and May 5, 2010.
The incumbent Ramsevak Paikra, who was accommodated in the Cabinet as Home Minister last month, was asked by the party’s senior leaders to retain the party’s State unit chief post till a suitable candidate is selected after the conclusion of Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh. BJP national chief Rajnath Singh put a stamp of approval on Sai’s appointment on Tuesday after a month of hectic parleys among the State and central leaders ahead of the lok Sabha polls. The announcement on Sai’s appointment was made on Tuesday by BJP national general secretary and in-charge of Chhattisgarh JP Nadda.
Chief Minister Raman Singh had on Sunday indicated that the announcement on party’s new State chief was expected within three days. The party chose the sitting MP from Raigarh also due to his outstanding leadership displayed during 2008 Assembly polls and also in 2009 lok Sabha election when the BJP bagged 10 out of 11 seats in Chhattisgarh, party sources informed.
