Villagers hand over lantern to MLA in protest

Raising the demand for installing 132 KV sub-station covering 200 villages of Devbhog-Mainpur region, the villagers have commenced an indefinite hunger strike at Devbhog bus stand on Sunday.

The villagers before camping for strike called on Bindranavagarh BJP MLA Damrudhar Pujari at his residence.

Agitators handed over a lantern forcefully to the MLA as a mark of protest to show that villagers are living in dark and without electricity. Even the agitators began their strike after lighting the  ‘chimney’ and lantern.

As per information received, the BJP government on demand of villagers in year 2015 had sanctioned 132 KV power sub-station at Indagaon.

But even after four years no work was started. Now with Congress coming to power no steps were taken to establish the power sub-station.

Under the different schemes more than 30,000 power supply connections have been provided to villagers but the power supply is erratic. Power supply remains cut off for hours. With elected representatives not acting on demand, the villagers had begun an indefinite agitation.
