Villagers devise unique water conservation method

To cope up with the water shortage problems in the ongoing summer season, residents of Seoni Village located in the remote area of Chura block in Gariaband district have adopted a unique model of water conservation.

With the support of Village Panchayat, the locals have constructed a culvert on a drain and six gates around it. The gates are opened in rainy season to store the water and closed in the remaining months.

Sources said the initiative is taken in order to provide uninterrupted water supply to the villagers during the summer season.

According to a villager, the level of water source has risen due to the effort. Also, it helps in carrying out summer farming activities in about 25 acres of land.

Village Panchayat Sarpanch Gangabai Thakur said the drain is regularly cleaned. Meanwhile, Secretary Gendram Nagesh pointed on the 65 to 70 wells existing in the village which in turn is helping in increasing the ground water level.
