The residents of Sadwa village under lendra Gram Panchayat in Darbha development block celebrated the Open Defecation Free (ODF) festival.
Member of Parliament Dinesh Kashyap, Janpad Panchayat President Sahadeyi Nag, Vice-Chairman Nilabati Kashyap, Zila Panchayat member Jalandhar Baghel, Darbha Janpad Panchayat former Vice-President Harekrishna and other people’s representatives were present there to congratulate the villagers on this achievement.
Kashyap, while congratulating the residents on becoming the first Open Defecation Free village in Darbha Development Block and third in Bastar District, described the day of historical importance.
The villagers have decided to impose a fine of Rs 200 on who so ever would be caught defecating in the open. The MP appreciated this effort of the villagers and said that this enforcement would not only keep a check on the public, who choose to defecate in the open, but motivate them on getting rid of this habit.
He said that it was an extremely proud moment for the village. By following the footsteps of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, the villagers have contributed in fulfilling the dream of a “Swachh Bharat”, he added.
He said that the villagers now could look forward for a healthier life, because 90 per cent of diseases were caused due to the pathogens and germs spread by the litter and open defecation.
