Vikas Yatra: A journey towards development

Published on:

Formation, reformation and development- all go hand in hand, and Chhattisgarh is an example for the same. Since the 'formation' of Chhattisgarh on Nov 1, 2000 till present date, especially the last one decade, can be called as the 'reformation' period for state. What about developmentIJ

Development is prosperity, development is peace, development is a positive change; it is an achievement, an overall improvement on the status quo that is much visible in all the aspects of Chhattisgarh state, whether it is the field of education, medical facilities, agriculture, commerce-business, sports, arts, women empowerment, awareness towards environment, quality of living, per capita income, power production or minimization of unemployment.

On one side, ultra-modern new capital, magnificent Jaitkham and international cricket stadium adorns the state as milestones of development, on the other hand huge positive impact of state government's policies, schemes and programmes on the lives of people itself tells the tale of progress in state. It is because of these public welfare policies, works, schemes and achievements that Chhattisgarh is exploring new heights of success in almost all aspects of development. Several historical initiatives have been taken and number of commendable works has been done in the direction of meeting the basic necessities of not only farmers, rural residents and poor people but also of the common people in state.

Recently, two matches of Indian Premiere league (IPl) were successfully organized at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium of Naya Raipur on April 28 and May 1, 2013. The strong will power and administrative capability of state's Chief Minister that was much evident in the successful accomplishment of the events, brought laurels to the state at international-level. As a result, Chhattisgarh has emerged as the shining star in the world of international sports, especially cricket. There couldn’t have been a better gift for the public, particularly the sports-lovers of state. What other older states of the country couldn’t do in past so many years of their existence, Chhattisgarh-the newly formed state has done it in the very first year of its teenage.

Talking about the status quo of employment opportunities in state, there has been immense improvement in this respect. The graph of unemployment in Chhattisgarh has considerably declined over the years. In fact, Chhattisgarh Central labour Bureau has marked Chhattisgarh as the state with lowest rate of unemployment, in its national report for financial year 2011-12. And definitely, decline in rate of unemployment is the sign of development.

Maker  'Credible Chhattisgarh', Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh not only won hearts of  many in Chhattisgarh but also earned confidence of people across the world by successfully organizing the IPl matches that too within short span of 45 days. International cricket players like Vivian Richard, David Warner, Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harsha Bhogle and even the IPl Chairman Rajiv Shukla were all praises about the international cricket stadium at Naya Raipur.

Some said that it was better than Mohali stadium while many others considered it to be the best stadium of the country. Some also opined that the stadium in Naya Raipur is better than many of the top-rated international cricket stadiums abroad. Construction of such magnificent stadium, hosting IPl cricket matches, winning hearts with hospitality… what is it if not the journey of developmentIJ

However, it is just the beginning. Chhattisgarh has gained credibility in various sectors over the years, but the competent and visionary leadership of state believe that the journey of development should go on and on…unobstructed. Destination of this journey is not an achievement or two. State has to go a long way before it outstand other states of the country in terms of progress and also step ahead of its own achievements to redefine excellence every time. Statewide 'Vikas Yatra 2013' that kicked off on May 6 is also a part of state government's tryst with determination.

During this one-and-a-half-month long statewide Vikas Yatra, over 12 lakh labourer families engaged in tendupatta collection will be distributed bonus of nearly Rs 311.71 crores. It is noteworthy that the first ever Vikas Yatra in Chhattisgarh was organized in year 2008 under the competent leadership of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh. The 2600km-long journey had commenced on May23, 2008, went on in 6 different levels and concluded on June 29. Meanwhile, Chief Minister had visited various parts of state and dedicated numerous development works to public.

This year also, people are all enthusiastic about Vikas Yatra-2013. Their enthusiasm for the event was quite visible in the overwhelming response received on the very first day of Vikas Yatra in Dantewada district. During this vikas yatra, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh will take note of the implementation of schemes and will also personally inspect the progress of development works. Meanwhile, several development works will be announced and inaugurated, whereas distribution of bonus and incentive to farmers and tendupatta labourers will also take place.

Through this journey, Chief Minister and other state-officials will interact with the public, take note of their grievances, and will thereby improve the ongoing schemes, along with formulation of new ones, so as to redress their grievances in best possible way.

Vikas Yatra-2013 will prove to be a result-oriented journey that will become the basis of several new schemes, programmes and policies of government in future.
