Vegetable vendors to go on strike

Published on:

The vegetable vendors will go on strike from Tuesday if the vegetable wholesalers do not accept to their demand, the vendor association secretary Birbal Baghel here said on Monday.

Baghel charged that the wholesalers are selling vegetables in retails price in the areas of vegetable vendors. As a result the vegetable vendors are not only losing customers, they are also unable to sale their vegetables, he alleged.

The vegetable vendors buy the vegetables from the wholesalers and sale it to the customers keeping a marginal profit. If the wholesalers start doing the sale at retail rate, then what would be left for them, he pointed out.

This thing is happening for the last 5-6 months. Baghel said a delegation of his association already met the District Collector and CMO in the past, but no steps have been taken yet in this regard. If the wholesalers do not refrain from selling it to the general consumers, the vegetable vendors and street sellers would be forced to launch an indefinite strike from tomorrow (Tuesday) and stop selling vegetables, he said.

On the other hand, the president of the association of the wholesalers said it was a conspiracy. The vendors want to sale the vegetable at higher prices to earn more profit and that is why they are doing this, he said.
