Use rivulets to recharge groundwater level: Baghel

Published on:

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held an extensive meeting on Tuesday at his official residence with different departmental officials on how to utilise water available in rivulets of the state to recharge groundwater.

The officials of forest, water resources, public health engineering, agriculture and other departments made audio-video presentations on the topic, giving details of model projects.

“With rest of the country Chhattisgarh is facing drop in ground water level leading to acute water shortages. Chhattisgarh can play a lead role in the country by developing a model project and modules on water conservation and preservation for which scientific approach and efforts are required. Forest, water resources and public health engineering departments have to make coordinated efforts for it,” said Baghel.

Scientific presentation were made on existing water conservation projects in the state’s Kajal river in Gariaband, Navagaon of Dhamda block in Dhamtari, Tegna Nala project of Dharsiwa in Raipur district and Gajra Nala of Patan block.

Appreciating the efforts, Baghel said it is a good initiative to take scientific approach towards a problem. But discussion should also be held with people living near project areas so as to get their experience, knowledge and suggestions.

Meeting discussed ‘Ridge to Valley’ (Mountain to Valley) concept where the primary sources of water can be conserved. Discussion was also held on how to save the water structures, rivers and rivulets from silting. Detailed discussion was also held on counter structure, check dam, stop dam, dyke wall, percolation tank and their inclusive uses.
