Uproar over reservation bills, House adjourned

Published on:

The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday was rocked by uproar over two reservation bills, leading to its adjournment for the day.

Congress member Mohan Markam raised the non-clearance of the two amendment bills by the Governor and said they were waiting to be signed for the last 32 days.

BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal cut him short said disrespect had been shown to the Governor.

The government did not table the Quantifiable Data Commission report before the House. He sought the report in the assembly.

Amid commotion blamed on both sides, Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

On resumption, Markam attacked the BJP saying the bills were passed unanimously. He was unable to continue as Congress MLAs continued to raise their voice on the bills. The Speaker’s requests for calm were rejected.

Comments made against the Governor will not be tolerated, the Speaker said.

With disorder                   continuing, the Speaker adjourned the House for five more minutes. Later, as 12 BJP members entered the well of the House shouting slogans, the House was adjourned for the day.
