Uproar in House over Govt paddy procurement issue

Published on:

Opposition Congress members created ruckus in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Thursday over the issue of paddy procurement while  demanding from  the State government to keep the promise of procuring each and every grain of paddy from farmers.

The Opposition members also staged walkout after being dissatisfied with the reply  of Food , Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Punnulal Mohle.

Congress member Bhupesh Baghel raised the issue during question hour about limit of paddy procurement per acre of land.

In his reply, the Food Minister informed the House that it was 15 quintals per acre of land.

Baghel in a supplementary question objected on having same limit for different regions having different fertility of soil.

The production of paddy in Dhamtari and Dantewada differs with the difference of soil and climate and thus the limit should be according to production of the respective area, he demanded.

The Minister later informed the House that Bonus is distributed to registered farmers only.

The farmers sell the produce as per their will and there was no compulsion on them to sell  produce to Mandis only, Mohle said.

Congress member Dhanendra Sahu demanded an answer from the Minister about production of paddy in irrigated as well as non irrigated land.

Demanding to change the paddy procurement policy, he further alleged that the government was not keeping its promise of procuring each and every grain from the farmers.

The Minister denied on changing the purchasing policy and dissatisfied with the answer of the Minister, the Congress members staged a walkout.
