Uproar in House over delay in MGNREG works

Published on:
Opposition Congress created uproar in the Chhattisgarh Assembly while blaming  the State Government for delaying jobs under MGNREGS and insisted for an immediate discussion over the issue through adjournment motion on Tuesday.
However, Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal turned down their plea while calling the issue as inadmissible. Immediately after the question hour, Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel said that workers are running here and there for work but the Government has not initiated works under MGNREGS.
He said that the Government had promised to provide 150 days of work under the scheme, but has failed to keep the promise.
Not a single work has been started under the scheme in any village, block or district due to apathy on part of the government, said Baghel. Congress member Satyanarayan Sharma and Dhanendra Sahu too said that the matter is of grave concern and demanded the Speaker to allow an immediate discussion on the issue.  Congress member Kawasi lakhma said that the labourers are moving to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh looking for work.
However, the Speaker was not convinced and rejected the issue for discussion. The Congress members later raised slogans while forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for 5 minutes.
As soon as the House resumed, Baghel once again requested the Speaker to consider the issue for discussion and explanation from the Government.
The Speaker said that he should bring notice for Call Attention motion over the issue and he will think over it.
Thereafter, the House continued with business which included Call Attention Motion,  presentation of  Chhattisgarh Sahkari Society (Amendment)  Bill 2015 by Cooperative Minister Punnulal Mohle, Industrial Dispute (Chhattisgarh Amendment) Bill 2015 by Chief Minister Raman Singh and Chhattisgarh land Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2015.
