Uproar in Assly over life threat to Ajay Chandrakar

Published on:

BJP MLAs on the third day of winter session of Chhattisgarh assembly raised the matter of life threat issued by an unknown person over a phone to Kurud MLA and former minister Ajay Chandrakar on Tuesday night.

The matter was brought to the notice of the Speaker, Chief Minister, DGP, Home minister and Parliamentary affairs minister, the MLAS said.

The issue led to adjournment during zero hour.

Speaker then directed parliamentary affairs      minister to make an enquiry and give a statement in the House on the status.

After Question Hour, home minister intimated that on November 26, a    resident of Durg Jaspal Singh Randhawa, made the threat call and he was taken into custody after enquiry.

During interrogation, he claimed to have sand mining business at Devri, Bilauda, Hathbandh and Amlidih in Dhamtari district, which was stopped by Naveen Chandrakar and Nagu Chandrakar of Hathbandh.

The villagers reportedly gave him the number on which he called, stating that it is number of the MLA’s PA.

Jaspal has been arrested under section 151 of the CrPC and has been produced before the court.

Meanwhile, MLA refused to take additional security offered to him. An FIR will be registered if MLA wants, stated the home minister.

Chandrakar stated that the areas mentioned by the accused do not fall in his constituency and he also does not know any person by that name.

He said the government should answer as to how a person from Durg is doing a business in Dhamtari when there is no such policy.

JCC(J) MLA Ajit Jogi said the FIR can be registered on the basis of first information provided by the MLA.

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said it is a piquant situation where during session threats are being issued to MLA in a bid to refrain them from raising public related issues.

Opposition members wanted to move adjournment motion on the issue of sand mafia during Zero Hour, which then led to adjournment for five      minutes.
