leader of the Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly TS Singh Deo on Sunday said that the UPA Government would once again be formed at the Centre after the lok Sabha polls.
“The UPA regime would continue like popular films,” he remarked while replying to Chief Minister Raman Singh’s recent statement that nine to 12 subsidised lPG cylinders was the last show of the UPA Government before the lok Sabha polls, at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme held in Raipur Press Club on Sunday.
Singh Deo, while criticising the ‘zero tolerance policy’ of Singh, remarked: “He (Chief Minister) has not taken any decisive action in several corruption cases that came to light in his last two tenures.”
Calling Raman Singh as a “weak Chief Minister,” Deo said that while he expressed concern over sub-standard construction but also failed to act stringently against the culprits. The Congress leader said that Congress and other political parties along with the media and society at large would have to monitor the decisions of BJP regime for preventing it from selling off precious natural resources like forests, land and water.
To query on the concept of ‘Shadow Cabinet’ he said that the idea was being seriously considered by the Congress legislative Party. “This would enable party leaders to focus on certain departments and bring out corruption prevailing there.”
To a question over ClP leaders being considered ‘soft’ on State Government, Deo admitted that he too was warned while assuming the post, adding, “While the perception is wrong and baseless, I would continue to work towards ensuring that the party carries out its role of a responsible Opposition.”
