The Congress party on Friday termed the Interim Union Budget as ‘disappointing’ and said it was ‘away from ground realities’.
The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre had accepted rural distress but steps announced in the Union Budget were inadequate, it said.
In a statement, Congress State General Secretary Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that the Budget announcements were ‘breach of promises’ made by the BJP in its 2014 Lok Sabha poll manifesto.
“The promise of providing 1.5 times the production cost to the farmers as per Swaminathan Committee recommendation has turned hollow”, he said.
The promise of loan interest waiver was also an attempt to fool the farmers who are even unable to pay the principal loan amount, Trivedi said.
The entire budget is just an ‘eyewash’ and none of the promises made therein needs to be taken seriously, he said.
The BJP is staring at an electoral defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and it has made a last ditch attempt to save its reputation, he added.
