Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra informed the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Tuesday that 48 inmates had died of natural causes in Chhattisgarh’s prisons during 2016-17 besides two cases of suicides.
In a written reply to BSP member Keshav Chandra, the Minister informed that out of the 48 inmates, 27 were convicted and 21 were under trials.
He said that during 2015-16, 50 inmates died of natural causes while one had committed suicide in the State’s jails.
