Two hardcore Naxals surrendered before police in the insurgency-hit Sukma district on Friday. One of the surrendered ultras carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

Police said they had decided to join the mainstream after being dissatisfied with the Maoist ideology and violence being perpetrated by Naxals in the Bastar region.

The surrendered ultras were identified as Madkam Sukka who was president of banned Maoist outfit Dandkaranya Kisan Adivasi Madjur Sangh (DKAMS) and Madkam Soni member of Naxal KAMS (Kisan Adivasi Madjur Sangh), police said.

Sukka was pre-salwa judum Naxal operative and had joined the rebel outfit in his childhood as a member of Bal Sangham. He was then promoted as Sangham member, DKAMS member and later President of DKAMS operating in Kondapalli region of the district, police informed.

Sukka was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

The duo will be provided with compensations and relief as per the state government’s rehabilitation policy for the ultras, police sources said.
