Two men were killed after a portion of an abandoned coal mine caved in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place when Sukhlal Rajwade (21) and Ramkeshwar Rajwade (32) entered an un-operated open cast coal mine to steal coal on Thursday night in Dugga village, Surajpur Superintendent of Police Ramkrishna Sahu said.
They were trapped in the soil after a portion of the mine collapsed while they were extracting coal and died on the spot, the officer added.
After being alerted on Friday, the police sent the bodies for post-mortem.
