nTwo Naxalites were killed by their colleagues after they refused to destroy a road built in their village in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district, police said on Thursday.
Three villagers were injured in the incident after they were thrashed by the Maoists for trying to save the two cadres.
The incident took place in Potali village in Aranpur police station limits on Wednesday night,
Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said.
The deceased were identified as Bajrang Vetti and Tido Mandavi, who were Militia Commander and Militia Member of the Maoists respectively, he said.
Naxalites are angry over the construction of a road from Aranpur to Potali, considered a Maoist hub, said the officer.
According to preliminary information, two Naxalite commanders called a meeting of Potali's villagers and asked why they had not destroyed the road despite being instructed to do so, he said.
"They then told Vetti and Mandavi, who were from Potali, to destroy the road. The two refused saying the road has helped villagers get access to several facilities such as ambulances," he said.
Angry over their refusal, the Naxalites thrashed the two and slit their throats, Pallava said. Some villagers were beaten up when they tried to intervene.
Security forces have sent the bodies for post-mortem while three villagers have been hospitalized, he said.
The security forces have launched a search to trace the killes, the officer added.
