Two hardcore naxals wanted in connection with killing of 16 persons including 15 CRPF personnel in Sukma district were nabbed during a search operation from a forested patch under Darbha police station of Bastar region, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.

“The duo was also involved in attack on Congress party convoy at Jheeram valley on May 25, 2013 which had left 27 persons dead including former Union Minister VC Shukla, Nand Kumar Patel besides others,” Superintendent of Police, Jagdalpur, Ajay Yadav told The Pioneer.

The insurgents were identified as Kawasi Joga alias Pada (25) and Madkami Bogal alias Bheema (22), both residents of Chandameta village under Darbha police station. “Joga was Janmilitia Commander of Chandameta range Committee while Bheema was Deputy Commander in same Committee,” the SP said.

They were nabbed by a joint team of district police and 151st battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during a search operation from jungles of Chandmeta, while duo was trying to escape, Yadav said adding, the action was undertaken following a precise intelligence input.

The held ultras were part of Naxal team that had blown up ‘108 Ambulance’ in Darbha leaving 5 CRPF personnel and 7 other dead during State Assembly polls last year, he said. According to Yadav, they were part of team that had killed 15 CRPF jawans and one other in Tahakvada area of Sukma district in month of March last year.

“The National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is conducting probe into Tahakvada massacre will be also informed about the arrest,” the SP said, adding, the held duo will be presented in court on Friday.
