Two schools of Dhamtari district have already received the ‘Excellent School Award’ and the Government is waiting for more schools to turn up and show what they have done to meet the Government’s desired goals. The two Dhamtari schools mainly — Government High School at Charrah village in Kurud block and Primary School at Kasawahi village in Dhamtari block have been awarded in which Government High School Charrah stood first at high school level and Primary School Kasawahi second at primary level.

The Chhattisgarh Government has been celebrating the current academic year 2014-15 as ‘Education Quality Year’ and Education Quality Upgradation Campaign had been also started in the State. In this contest, Chief Minister Raman Singh had declared to award excellent schools of the State by the Government.

Ten years ago, village Kasawahi, located in the catchment area of Shivshankar dam (Gangrel irrigation tank) of Dhamtari district, has been one of the unapproachable villages. In 2004, under the Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana, concrete approach road had been constructed. Residents of this tribal-dominated forest village were not interested in education. With the effort of the then headmaster of the primary school Prabhulal Yadav, their attention had been drawn towards education and other activities.

The present headmaster Akhilesh Pawar said that now all teachers reach the school on time and the students’ attendance is 97 per cent on an average. Most important thing is that there is no school drop out in the village.

In-charge Principal of Government High School Charrah in Kurud block, Gokul Singh Diwan said that the students and teachers of this school are much disciplined. Discussing with Parents and Public Participation Committee members on a regular basis emphasis is given on non-educational activities, imparting information about general knowledge and current incidents to students at the prayer time are some of the major activities of the school.

Holding meeting of the committee on a regular basis every month, guidelines have been given on the development of the school. Average attendance of students in the school is 98 per cent.
