Raising the issue of paddy procurement and failure to lift it in a specified period causing damage, BJP MLAs Ranjana Dipendra Sahu and Ajay Chandrakar on Friday walked out of the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
During Question Hour on the last day of a four-day Monsoon session, Ranjana Sahu sought details of tenure of paddy procurement, quantity fixed for buffer stock and time period fixed for lifting it.
She asked about loss in terms of quantity and amount as well as if any action was initiated for those responsible for it. How many farmers could not sell paddy in the Kharif year 2019-20.
Replying, Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat said the tenure of procurement was from December 1, 2019 to February 20, 2020. Except for the buffer stock, the remaining paddy has to be lifted within 72 hours. He said there is no loss.
A total of 3,021 farmers did not sell the produce, he added.
BJP's Chandrakar tried to intervene but the Speaker directed the person who raised the question to speak first.
Chandrakar requested that as what he wanted to say concerns the same district, he should be allowed to raise questions.
He then said both members do not seek further answers to the question. "We want to register a protest." Then, Sahu and Chandrakar walked out of the House.
