Braving the scorching summer on Thursday, hundreds of farmers and tribals under the banner of Adiwasi Mahasabha took out a rally at Dilmili against the Centre’s land Acquisition Bill and the MoU signed for steel plants in the Bastar division. The tribals assembled in the district to share their views and unanimously demanded a policy that would promote farming and protect farmers and everyone who depend on land for their livelihood.
The rally was a part of nationwide demonstration against the land Acquisition Bill called by the Communist Party of India (CPI). Giving a call for this nationwide agitation, CPI General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy had told the media that the “left parties are not against industrialization, but the methods through which the Central government is promoting it, like bringing the land Amendment bill.”
He said that the government should allocate barren lands and the land under the government’s possession for industries instead of forcefully relinquishing fertile land of farmers. The protestors stated that through the land Acquisition Bill, the government aimed at promoting commercial interests of corporate establishments at the expense of the common populace. They accused the Narendra Modi government at the Centre of dividing the country on communal lines and also widening wealth inequality among the industrialists and the common man.
