Tribal villagers call off protest against Adani’s AEL

nThe agitation of tribal villagers at Bailadila and Bacheli against Adani’s AEL under the banner of Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti (SSS) was called off on Thursday morning following state government’s intervention.

The Bhupesh Baghel-led state government recently instructed deforestation at the disputed site should be stopped immediately. It also ordered a probe into the alleged fake gram Sabha being conducted in 2014 to give nod to the mining activities in the area. Following these decisions of the government, agitators withdrew their protest.

They were, however, adamant till Thursday morning for setting up a time frame for the completion of probe into the alleged fake gram sabha.

The district administration, however, pacified them and assured that the probe would be completed within 15 days as they were demanding.

Meanwhile, the villagers have warned that they would again resume the agitation if the probe was not completed within 15 days. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday instructed that the project works of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), including felling of trees at block no 13 of Bailadila mines should be stalled with immediate effect.

The CM also declared a probe into the alleged fake Gram Sabha held in 2014, which granted the permission for mining contract in sacred hillock, regarded by tribal villagers as their    natural deity.
