Training for anti-cheating squads proposed after student commits suicide

Chhattisgarh’s child rights commission stressed the need for training of the personnel manning the flying squads formed to check copying and cheating in ongoing board exams in the state, after a girl student committed suicide.

The student reportedly took the extreme step a couple of days ago in Jashpur fearing that she could also be picked up for strip-search by the squad members.

Taking cognizance of the incident, chairperson of the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CSCPCR) Prabha Dubey wrote to all the district collectors urging them to impart training to the flying squad members so that they could better understand the psychology of the students.

It should be ascertained that there should not be unnecessary tension and pressure among the students and their mental situation should be gauged while frisking them.

The squads while conducting surprise raids should not create an atmosphere of terror and should tackle the students sensitively, Dubey instructed.

There should also not be any disturbance in solving the exam paper during the surprise checking and that every student should not be victimised for the fault of a few, the chairperson said.

“The fear of humiliation in public is not good for the students’ psychology and thus it should be avoided,” she instructed.
