The alleged move by the Raipur Municipal Corporation to shift out factories and godowns from the city following a fire mishap in a rubber godown in a populated area in Telibandha has angered the traders.
As the news came that the corporation is planning to remove thousands of godowns and factories, the traders threatened to launch an agitation if the corporation tries to remove the godowns and factories forcibly despite opposition. The rubber factory caught fire at Telibandha five days ago. Taking the incident seriously, the corporation has directed its zonal commissioners to initiate steps for the removal of such factories and godowns situated in populated areas and report to it regularly.
Chhattisgarh Chambers of Commerce vice-president lalchand Gulabani said instead of focusing how to douse the fire, the corporation has been planning to move the factories and godowns from populated areas which is not possible, he said.It is not hundreds, thousands of factories and godowns are situated in the populated areas. If the corporation attempts to move them or seal them, the association will strongly protest against it, he said.
Corporation zonal deputy commissioner Dr JR Soni said the corporation will form a team in each zone to carry out the eviction drive. Necessary instructions have already been given to zone officers to initiate the steps as early as possible. The zonal commissioner will also send notices to factories and godown operators and owners to shift their units to outside of the city. If they don’t carry out the order, the corporation will also take legal action against them, he said.
