Traders reluctant to lift paddy from mandi

Published on:

Traders were showing their reluctance to lift paddy as no uniform level of grains were available at the mandi in Jagdalpur, officials said on Friday.

Farmers have been rushing to the mandi with their new crops but traders were not showing much interest as the paddy grains available were the mix of both short and bold variety.

Mandi inspector Johan Dhruv said the new harvested crops started reaching the mandi from the first of November but there was a shortage of the desired level of grains.

“The mixed varieties of grains are being sold at `900 to 950 per quintal where as the old crop stocks are available at `1,075 to 1,080 per quintal, he said. Similarly, the price of Maize per quintal is fixed at `950 to 1,000,” he said.

Similarly the mismanagements at mandi were also a major cause of concern for both farmers and traders. Grains were affected due to the recent rains. When the rain stopped, it resulted in high moisture content in the paddy.

Some traders said they had brought the attention of the local authorities about the sheds which were been damaged in the past, but no step was taken.
