It has been for the first time that a full-fledged IAS officer has been appointed in newly-formed Gariyaband district, which has been facing various kind of problems ranging from administrative to civic since its formation as a district in 2012.
Amit Katariya who has been given the responsibility of the district will have to deal with several serious issues such as diamond smuggling, encroachment and long pending development work. Notably Amit Kataria has been given the charge of the district on April 13 this year.
Tanmay Agrawal, a resident of Gariyaband informed that ‘Gaurav Path’ for the city was proposed but not much has been done in this direction. The city has been given the status of Nagar Panchayat but still people are deprived of basic amenities like clean drinking water and sanitation. There have been constant complaints of diamond smuggling in the district which needs to be dealt with firm hands, he said.
