Countless barbaric Maoist ultras attack have been devouring innocent lives in Naxal hot bed of South Bastar region in Chhattisgarh for decades. The Darbha tragedy was the latest massacre which rendered the Congress party almost numbed just before the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.
This time around, circumstances prompted and paved the way for all sorts of speculation— theories of evil design even to the extent that big shots of the party were not spared.
On the other hand, the Opposition in Chhattisgarh also jumped to the conclusion and left no stone unturned to sell which have slightest hope attached to it that may find buyers in the political arena.
Though one who is observing the Maoist menace for all these years have for sure got a different view point then what the various political factions and parties had been saying all this while. Eleven days have gone by since then and many big leaders and sympathisers have visited Raipur and met the bereaved kin of the martyred senior Congress leaders —Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee’s President Nandkumar Patel and former leader of Opposition Mahendra Karma and others .
The Prime Minister and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Treasurer Motilal Vora, also visited and generously extended support to the Chief Minister Raman Singh and categorically said that States which are reeling under the agony of Naxal menace will get full support from the Centre.
let’s have a look at some Maoist attacks that attracted national media’s attention in which 76 CRPF and a State police inspector were killed in gruesome attack in Tarmetala during 2010.
More than 36 policemen killed in an attack in Odisha’s challenging terrain Malkangiri few years back and latest Darbha tragedy took not less than 28 lives in Sukma-Konta region known for Maoist’s armed presence . And in a way, their undeclared reign remained unchallenged for years together though large number of CRPF jawans deployed in Sukma region to deter the evil efforts of Maoist keep lurching over that area almost always.
National Investigation Agency has commenced the Darbha attack probe and registered cases against insurgents on the basis of their primary report. But what will come out of itIJ Reason of the attack, or whose involvement was in it IJ Does it serve the purpose to deter any further attempt of barbaric attackIJ What is needed most at this juncture is a steel nerve and firm decision to formulate a joint action plan, that is imperative to get the Maoist ultras uprooted from the South Bastar region.
On the other hand, we have to see even the fringe cause behind the Maoist attack. There was a news report that the road connecting south Bastar from Andhra Pradesh will be repaired which is weather –beaten and suffered de-asfaltation whose bidding had been won by some Hyderabad based construction company . The Government needs `200 crore to get that road reconstructed. The point here to make is who will reach the Maoist strongholds to construct roads which anyway require huge investmentIJ
Apart from the counter insurgency exercises there still needs to be a system in place where infrastructure development which helps counter the vicious plans of the insurgents need to go now seamlessly in States fighting the naxal menace provided the insurgents are prevented from damaging vital roads which connect the state’s key connections with the
bordering States.
