Three minor boys including two brothers drowned in a river in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place when Vinay (10), his brother Priyanshu (7) and Ranjit (7) were bathing in the river, Balrampur City Kotwali Station Head Officer (SHO) Surendra Uike said. All three slipped into the deep water and drowned, he said. Their bodies were taken out by the Home Guards.
Diarrhoea control fortnight from today
Although the monsoon has provided much needed respite from oppressive heat, it has brought a host of diseases including diarrhoea. The Health Department will observe an Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) from July 1 to 15. Director Health Dr Priyanka Shukla had told all Chief Medical and Health Officers to hold awareness programmes besides setting up ORS and Zinc corners. “Mitanins and ANMs will also make awareness against the disease along with identifying severely malnourished children during home visits and refer them to the health centres,” she said.
Children aged below five years will be the focus, she said.
