Police on Monday claimed to have solved a murder mystery after arresting three persons, including wife of the victim, a merchant navy engineer who was brutally killed at his house in Ekta Nagar locality a few days ago.

K Vamsi Lata (50) wife of the victim K Vishwanath Sharma, got his husband murdered as she was fed up of his regular alcohol abuse, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prafull Thakur told reporters.

Vamsi Lata roped in her tenants Luvkush Shukla (27) and Avinash Yadav (20), both natives of Uttar Pradesh to kill the merchant navy engineer, the ASP said while adding she allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh for executing the plan.

“In a pre-planned manner, the Vamsi Lata on intervening night of Saturday and Sunday left the main entrance of their house open to facilitate the entry of Shukla and Yadav. As per the plan Shukla and Yadav entered the house and attacked Sharma with thick wooden stick. They hit him on his head while he was sleeping in his bedroom,” the ASP said.

Sharma’s daughter was the first person to spot her father as she woke up early in the morning for study. Sharma was then admitted to government hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Monday morning, the ASP added.

Police have recovered scooty, wooden stick used in the murder and five mobile phones from the possession of the two.

They have been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 of the IPC.  Further investigation is underway, police said
