Three officials of the Chhattisgarh government were caught red handed on Tuesday while accepting bribes in traps laid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Bilaspur, Surajpur and Bemetara.

Naveen Kumar Dewangan, coordinator of RURBAN Mission Zila Panchayat in Bilaspur, was caught while taking Rs 35,000 from the representative of the Sarpanch from Bhadora Tehsil in Bilaspur, an ACB press release said.

Dewangan had demanded the money for releasing first instalment of payment for various developmental works done in the village like stop dam, water tank, shade and water harvesting system constructions.

A total of Rs 14 lakh was sanctioned for the works, ACB said.

Likewise, ACB sleuths trapped the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Surajpur, Kapurchand Sahu, while taking Rs 30,000 from a Head Master posted at the Government Middle School at Karanji in Surajpur district, the press release said.

Sahu had sought Rs 30,000 for releasing the Head Master’s salary for the period of lockdown, forcing the latter to complain to the ACB.

Patwari Lochan Sahu, posted at Navagarh in Bemetara district, had asked for Rs 7,500 from a resident of Navagarh for changing names in the land record after the death of the complainant’s father. After persuasion, the Patwari agreed to take Rs 2,800.

The complainant alerted ACB’s Raipur office which trapped the Patwari, the press release said.
