Three animals fallen in well, rescued

Two days after a girl losing her life after falling into an uncovered 45 ft deep borewell in Rajnandgaon district, three stray animals fell into an open well situated near Raja Talab area here, leading to chaos among the locals early on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 6.45 am when the locals called in the fire brigade to rescue the animals including two bulls and a cow. “The well was about 20 ft deep and was already filled with about 10 ft water. We filled the well with water upto its surface and then tied the animals with rope to drag them out. No animal was hurt in the rescue operation” claimed Fire Superintendent, Moinuddin Asharfi.

The officer added that the well was open and there was no boundary wall around it, thus was posing dangers for lives. The operation lasted about an hour. Though, the animals were rescued but the incident raised many questions. On Saturday, a four-year-old girl, Khusbu had lost her life when she fell into a bore-well which was lying uncovered in Rajnandgaon district. A similar incident was reported in Janjgir-Champa last year, where an infant had died after falling into a pit dug for bore-well.
